Freq of Calm

Your mind already knows
how to settle.

Somewhere between a racing thought and a restless night, there’s a quieter frequency waiting. This is a short guide to the sound patterns that help the mind find it — gently, and on its own terms.

The science of stillness

Five states, one spectrum

The brain moves through distinct electrical rhythms all day — measured in cycles per second (Hz). Slower rhythms feel like rest. Faster ones feel like effort. Sound can gently invite the mind from one into the other.

Delta
0.5 – 4 Hz
The slowest rhythm — present during deep, dreamless sleep and the body’s own repair cycles. Long, unhurried waves.
Theta
4 – 8 Hz
The doorway to deep relaxation and meditation. Often felt just before sleep, or during moments of quiet creativity.
Alpha
8 – 13 Hz
Calm alertness — the state of being relaxed but awake. This is where stress tends to loosen its grip.
Beta
13 – 30 Hz
The everyday working mind — active, focused, sometimes overactive. Most waking hours, and most overthinking, live here.
Gamma
30 – 100 Hz
The fastest rhythm — linked to moments of peak focus and sudden insight. Brief, and easily disrupted by stress.

Why this matters for a busy mind

Most stress lives in Beta — the wide-awake, always-on state. Rest lives further down the spectrum, in Alpha and Theta. The gap between where the mind is and where it needs to be is often just a matter of gentle guidance, not force.

This is the idea behind sound-based entrainment: using audio patterns to invite the brain toward a slower, calmer rhythm, the same way a lullaby slows a restless child without a single word of instruction.
